Books/Stories

You can find my short story “A Rock Is a Rock Is a Rock ... Or Is It?” in the fantasy anthology Tales of Fortannis: A Bard’s Eye View, edited by Michael Ventrella. All the stories in the anthology take place on Fortannis, a world created for the LARP [Live-Action Role-Playing game], the Alliance. You do not, however, have to have any previous knowledge of Fortannis to enjoy the stories.

The anthology has a variety of tales featuring humans and many other species.  While the world of Fortanis has elves and trolls similar to those in many fantasy worlds, you will also find the unique biata and gorbe.  And the goblins of Fortannis – the main characters in my story – are little green-skinned, red-headed, and often silly creatures.  Humans tend to regard the goblins as lesser beings and nuisances, but the goblins have their own special sort of wiliness.

I have a fascination with considering how the ramifications of large historical events affect the individuals and families not directly connected with them.  In my story, the small goblin village faces economic hardship because a of recent accord with the humans which removed their main method of subsistence – pilfering from humans.  The dire situation has caused my main character’s parents to decide to send her to stay with her uncle in a larger village.  And so Drin sneaks off early the next morning to join the three village boys in what might be her last adventure as they follow the formerly seldom-used human road to see what has so interested the humans.  They dodge danger and find something entirely unexpected.

The anthology is now available from Amazon in print and Kindle format and from the publisher, Double Dragon Press, in ebook format.
